Martinborough – Homestead renovation
A two-storied Edwardian beauty, Waitohu Lodge sits among the vineyards on Martinborough’s Golden Mile. Originally built in Lyall Bay at the turn of the twentieth century, it was moved to its current location in 1999 and lovingly restored. Living overseas at the time, the current owners purchased this majestic homestead sight unseen in 2022.
The brief to Aspect Architecture was to modernise the house while retaining the character of a grand old lady. The homestead renovation included internalising an outdoor bathroom and creating a boot room at the back of the house, converting the commercial kitchen into a laundry, and creating a sheltered and sunny indoor/outdoor entertainment area.
