An award-winning two-storey home extension in Brooklyn
As this Brooklyn family grew, space within the existing home became increasingly limited, leaving the owners with very little room to call their own.
The solution was to remove the existing lean-to, which housed the laundry and family bathroom, and replace it with a new two-storey extension designed to make much better use of the available space.
Downstairs, the addition created a new family bathroom, laundry and dedicated storage room. Upstairs, a separate master bedroom was added, complete with a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, giving the owners a private retreat within the family home.
Adding a second level to an existing property requires careful coordination between old and new construction. Structural connections, services, circulation and the way the extension integrates with the existing house all need to be considered so the finished result feels cohesive.
