Registered Master Builders HOUSE OF THE YEAR 2018 award winner for best renovation.
An award-winning architectural renovation in Seatoun
This extensive Seatoun renovation transformed a former military home into a contemporary Wellington residence.
Designed by architect Judi Keith-Brown and constructed by Scotty’s Construction, the project went far beyond a cosmetic update. The existing house was completely gutted before being rewired, replumbed and fully insulated, allowing the home to be comprehensively upgraded for modern living.
A new extension was then added, with aluminium panel cladding creating a distinctive contemporary finish and a clear contrast with the original home.
The transformation continued outside, where a new carport was constructed using a steel structure, aluminium framing and cedar slats. Together, these elements gave the property a more modern architectural character while substantially improving the performance and functionality of the existing house.
Renovations of this scale require careful coordination between new and existing construction. Services, insulation, structural alterations and architectural detailing all need to work together so the finished project feels cohesive.
The quality of the completed renovation was recognised at the 2018 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards, where the project received an award for best renovation.
This Seatoun project is a strong example of Scotty’s Construction’s experience delivering high-quality architectural renovations across Wellington.
