An architectural villa renovation in Martinborough
This architecturally designed Martinborough renovation transformed the interior of an existing villa while retaining the character of its original façade.
Working with Aspect Architecture and Bridget Foley Design, Scotty’s Construction gutted and rebuilt the interior to improve the flow of the home and create a more contemporary environment for the owners.
Light, fresh interior spaces were designed to complement the clients’ art collection, while a contrasting dark library and TV room provides a cosy retreat within the home. The result balances the character of the original villa with a more modern approach to everyday living.
The renovation also includes a particularly personal feature. When they are not working offshore, the owners are keen charcutiers, so a purpose-built room was created at the rear of the house for preparing charcuterie and entertaining during the warmer months.
Renovating an established character home requires careful consideration of what should be retained and where modern interventions can improve the way the property functions. For this Martinborough project, the original street presence was preserved while the interior was comprehensively reworked around the owners’ lifestyle.
It is a distinctive example of Scotty’s Construction’s residential renovation work across the Wellington and Wairarapa regions.
