Scotty’s Construction – Southern Cross Project

Southern Cross

Ongoing hospitality renovations for a Wellington institution

The Southern Cross has been part of Wellington’s hospitality scene for more than 100 years, with a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces serving a broad mix of customers.

Scotty’s Construction has worked with the Southern Cross team on multiple projects over the past decade, helping update and improve different areas of the venue as its needs have evolved.

Our work has included remodelling the guest room, adding outdoor seating and refurbishing the kitchen, along with a number of other improvements across the property.

For these projects, Scotty’s Construction worked closely with John Mills Architects to ensure the new work came together cohesively with the character and functionality of the existing venue.

Working within an operating hospitality business brings an additional layer of complexity. Construction needs to be carefully planned around customers, staff and trading hours to minimise disruption wherever possible.

Much of the work at Southern Cross was therefore completed during night shifts, allowing the business to continue operating while renovations progressed behind the scenes.

The long-running relationship reflects Scotty’s Construction’s experience delivering practical, carefully managed commercial fit-outs and renovations across Wellington.
