Winner: Registered Master Builders House of the Year 2021 award winner for best new home.
An award-winning architectural new build on a Wellington hillside
Set high above Wellington in Roseneath, this architectural new build was designed to make full use of its exceptional hillside position.
Designed by Parsonson Architects and constructed by Scotty’s Construction, the home replaced an existing property on the site. The finished house takes advantage of panoramic views across Wellington’s CBD, harbour and surrounding ranges, while its elevated position allows it to benefit from all-day sun.
Building on Wellington’s hillsides brings its own set of construction challenges. Access, exposure, topography and the relationship between the building and the site all need to be carefully managed throughout the build.
For this Roseneath home, the architectural design responds directly to the setting, creating a warm and sophisticated residence that feels removed from the busy city below while remaining closely connected to the surrounding landscape.
The quality of the completed home was recognised at the 2021 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards, where it received an award for best new home.
The project is a strong example of Scotty’s Construction’s experience delivering bespoke architectural new builds across Wellington, combining careful project management, technical construction capability and high-quality workmanship.
